How the Pandemic is Reshaping Our Homes

The COVID-19 pandemic has made an impact across every country on the globe, so it is inevitable that it would have an effect on how we live. We have been spending much more time at homes and seven months later — we see how that has transformed our relationship to our homes.

Real estate agents and interior designers across the country have seen a shift towards investing in functional spaces, outdoor entertainment, and creating an overall welcoming atmosphere within the home.

Home Offices & Study Spaces

Home offices were previously used for paying bills and checking emails, but the bulk of work remained in the corporate office. Now with quarantine and people full-time working from home, the home office has become fully functional. Homes offices now tend to have large desks with extra working space, supportive chairs, and storage to cope with a much larger workload.

The pandemic has had a similar effect on study spaces for school age children. School has transitioned to Zoom, so having designated distraction free-zones are important for school-work. Converting a guest room into a learning area has been popular for parents with kids who are remote learning.

Outdoor Entertainment

Restaurants, bars, and other event venues are now tricky to navigate —if not shut down entirely—so our homes have become our retreats as well as our community centers and staycations. Investing in your outdoor space is at an all-time high. Homes that feature pocket doors help expand the living space have been extremely sought after. Home owners are also looking to invest in communal areas like fire-pits, pools, and even outdoor movie theaters.

Welcome Home

Necessity is truly the mother of invention, and this year has proven that to be extremely true. Homes in past years were a place we valued, but lost a connection to it. This year our homes protected & sheltered us, creating a newfound importance of home. Home owners and people looking to buy property have a newfound stance on functionality of every space.

I have a unique approach to real estate. I am knowledgeable how each neighborhood in the Los Angeles area behaves and will help you navigate the home buying process in person or virtually. This year has made the home the most valuable asset you can have, and I would be thrilled to help find the perfect home for you and your family.
